What to Expect

Like our one-hour walks, but longer, with more content, and stopping for refreshments at a local independent cafe (not included in ticket price). We'll look out for otter field signs, collect some data such as footprint measurements to help us learn more about the local otter population, and discuss otter ecology, biology, behaviour and conservation, as well as how it all fits into the local area. We'll keep an eye out for other wildlife on our travels and always stop to investigate anything interesting, otter related or not.

We vary our sites per session to limit potential for disturbance and ensure we're being sensitive to the landscapes we work across, and given we'll end with something to eat and drink, it also gives us the opportunity to support various local businesses. All of the sites selected have regular otter activity, giving you an excellent opportunity to see a variety of field signs. While we always keep an eye out, our ecology walks are not designed to be otter watching events and so please do not be disappointed if we don't see any otters. We are exploring options for Fife-based otter watch events in the future, so do check back for further updates if this is of interest to you.

We will be walking at a leisurely pace and stopping regularly, though will expect to cover 2-4 miles. Some of the sites we'll cover have very narrow or no footpaths and will involve walking part of the way along beaches and rocky shore lines. Please bear this in mind when opting for this or one or shorter walks, which typically take place in areas with better access for those with limited mobility. We will always do our best to accommodate the needs of each group, so if you are interested in this event and would like to discuss a private booking at a site more suitable for you, please get in touch.
